Georgia Cosmetology License Renewal CE Requirements

Online cosmetology courses may be taken to obtain your Georgia cosmetology continuing education hours as long as the classes are properly registered with the board. Cosmetologists, nail technicians and estheticians must take 5 hours of continuing education. Of these, 3 hours must be a health and safety course including the DTAE curriculum. The other 2 hours may be filled with courses of your choice.


License Renewal Dates - (6 month late renewal period for individuals who miss the renewal period)

Cosmetologists - 3/31 even years
Nail technicians – 8/31 odd years
Estheticians - 8/31 odd years

Licensees of 25 years or longer may receive a waiver of the required Georgia cosmetology continuing education. Also, licensees who can prove to the Board that they have a hardship may request a waiver.

All teachers or instructors of cosmetology at all levels seeking renewal of licenses are required to submit to the state board proof of completion of 15 hours of continuing education in the cosmetology profession approved by the state board at least half of which consists of instruction in teaching methods.
